The TV encodes are USELESS USELESS USELESS!

You better not be lying, Bluray edit.
torrent

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure from Blu-Ray. Includes all show-related material.

These are made mainly for MudaMudaMuda to use for their BD versions, but I'm throwing them out in the wild as I do with most stuff I encode. (If you want to use these for your own subs, feel free)

These include the English subs from the BDs, kept in their original format, but rescaled to fit the 1280x720 encodes of the episodes. (There were no subs for any of the extras)

Video: 1280x720, 10-bit x264, crf19
Audio: Stereo, AAC 50%
Subtitles: official English subs, PGS format.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross 1080p

Torrent

As with the 720p release, this contains all content from the SDF Macross Blurays, including the bonus disc. Everything except for the PS2 game promo and 30th Anniversary Special have subs. All subtitles are retimed versions of the Galaxy Network translation.

Because of the nature of the sources used, the commercial collection, the original broadcast version of episode 11, and the game promo have been downscaled to 640x480. (the first two because they were taken from cruddy NTSC tape, and the game promo because it's game footage of a PS2 game).

Filtering: As little as possible. All the normal episodes, OP/ED collection, and pachinko videos only have cropping and the stuff needed for 10-bit. The Macross Special needed a simple IVTC added, while the commercial collection, original broadcast episode 11, game promo, and 30th Anniversary Special needed deinterlacing.

Video: 10-bit x264, crf21
Audio: AAC 50%
Subs: yellow

1080p SDF Macross is currently underway.

Yep. It's happening. As usual, the only torrent will be the final batch. Until then, they'll be available here.

Video: 10-bit x264, crf 21
Audio: AAC 50%

Filtering on material sourced from HD film scans (all episodes, the special, and most, if not all of the OP collection) is limited to crops, trims, and 10-biting the color. All upscaled material (which is limited to the bonus disc) will be de-upscaled if possible.

Shooting and Editing of early Heisei Masked Rider (Or: why Kuuga's DVDs suck)

So, you may have noticed a vast difference in video quality between Masked Rider Kuuga and the series that came after it. After stumbling across some articles on Toei's website completely by accident, I figured I'd go over the differences in how the series were shot and edited.

Kuuga Method

Much like Babylon 5, Masked Rider Kuuga was shot in HD, but because of technology and budget constraints, was edited in SD. And like Bablyon 5, they shot in HD so that, at some point in the future when editing in HD was less expensive, they could go back to the HD footage and make new HD masters. And again, much like Babylon 5, this has not yet been done.

Kuuga's video quality also suffers because the DVDs use analog NTSC-format masters that have horrible dot-crawl and rainbowing. Only the Special Edition DVD has footage sourced from the original digital masters, and it looks MUCH better.

Agito-Blade Method

Chances are, someone at Toei figured it'd be better to just shoot in SD if they were going to edit in SD, and not letterbox anythung until you were making the broadcast masters. Plus, this let them use the wide-screen mode in the DVD release. While this means these shows could never exist in true HD, it let them have better masters at the time than they could using the Kuuga method. Toei finally went back to HD with Hibiki, which was shot, edited, and broadcast in 1080.

Macross 7 eps 1-4 / Project dropped

 Torrent

It's kind of hard to say this, but I'm dropping Macross 7 as a subtitled project.

It's taking me too much time to clean up the timing to what I consider to be an accepitable level of not-badness, and this is time I'd rather be spending on either encoding stuff that needs new raws, or working with whoever (usually GUIS) on stuff that needs subs at all.

Since Macross 7 already has subs, I've pushed dixing the timing to the back burner. But after a while on being stalled, I need to move it over to "dropped".

Now, I'll still be encoding the whole series, so don't worry about that. Encoding is my thing. Timing is not, so if someone wants to pick it up, I'll probably have the raws out by the end of April at the latest.

Then, hopefully, someone will listen to our song.

Masross 7 Episode 1

Special Preview Edition!

This is going to take a while, so I figured I'd release the first episode. I'll probably release a batch of everything from the first box when I have those four discs finished, and another of the full series.

Like with SDF Macross, I'll be encoding EVERYTHING, regardless of if there are subs for it or not. So some bonus material in the batches may be left as raw, and will be tagged as [Bunny_Hat_Raw].

Video: 10-bit x264, 1080p, crf19
Audio: aac 50% (commentary tracks will be included)
Subtitles: Central Anime with cleaned up timing (Thanks guys!)
